Kelley Blue Book® Reviews the Ram 1500: Great Hauling Capability, Refined Road Manners
The 2017 Ram 1500 is an excellent light-duty, half-ton pickup, according to Kelley Blue Book® in a review. This truck can be configured in a nearly endless range of combinations – from cab style to bed length to engine size to 11 different trim levels – and is as at home on the worksite or ranch as it is in the shopping center parking lot. It’s a versatile truck, in short.
In terms of power and performance, the Ram 1500 has three engine options. The base engine is a 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 that makes 305 horsepower and 269 pound-feet of torque and gets up to 25 mpg on the highway. The big dog is the 5.7-liter Hemi V8 that cranks out 395 horsepower and 410 pound-feet of torque. If you’re regularly pulling heavy loads, this is your best bet. In the middle though is another terrific engine: the 3.0-liter turbocharged EcoDiesel V6 that makes 240 horsepower and an eye-opening 420 pound-feet of torque; fuel economy It might be the most efficient of the three, with the ability to deliver nearly 30 mpg in fuel economy.
With 11 different trims to choose from, the Ram 1500 can be set up as everything from a basic work truck to a luxury hauler. At its most basic in Tradesman form, the new Ram comes with a locking tailgate, automatic headlights, a tilt — but not telescoping — steering wheel, air conditioning, and a basic 6-speaker radio with USB and auxiliary inputs. Optional Equipment. One item Kelley Blue Book® does recommend is the Uconnect Access infotainment system with its 8.4-inch touch screen and user-friendly interface.
